When you begin to see yourself as a person who understands that greatness lives in you, it’s powerful. You go from letting your fears dictate your actions to letting your faith take the wheel and going along for the ride, a ride filled with roadblocks where each one is overcome.
Believing in yourself is powerful, but sometimes we are simply not there. We simply don’t see the strength we possess or the amazing qualities God has placed in us so we can be a fragrant aroma to the world. We see only our limitations and flaws. So, as much as I want to tell you that in the moments when you don’t believe in yourself you should simply remember who you are so you can see how powerful you are, it’s not always that simple.
Sometimes we need someone to believe in us first, someone to see potential, courage, and whatever qualities God has freely entrusted us with for His glory.
I went to an event last weekend. It was truly extraordinary. One of the amazing event organizers said to me, “You are effervescent.” Because it’s not a word in my everyday vocabulary, I asked, “What does that mean?” She replied, “It’s like a tablet you put in a glass and it bubbles up,” she used her hands to signal the effect the tablet has on the water. I said, “Aww, thank you!”
If you have been reading my blogs, you know by now that I truly believe there is always a lesson to learn. When my children were younger we would go to the movies and my kids, having picked up on this pattern, would say after certain films, “There was no deep lesson in it!” I just laugh. I did have to learn that life sometimes is simply meant to be enjoyed. I digress. Anyway, as I sat and reflected on the event and took time to write down the moments of joy I experienced, I remembered that comment. So I looked up the meaning:
Effervescent:
Physical / Fizzy: A liquid or substance that produces, releases, or is filled with bubbles of gas (such as carbonated water, champagne, or a dissolving vitamin tablet).
Personal / Lively: A person or personality that is vivacious, enthusiastic, high-spirited, sparkling, and full of energy.
I paused and let that sink in. This woman used a word I would never have thought to use to describe myself. But it is so true. Whatever God places in me or path he makes clear I must walk, every struggle, every joy, every victory, is a substance He calls me to drop into His hands so He can create amazing bubbles from it.
When I think of the AMAZING bubbles He has produced, it blows my mind. But it started with Him using someone to speak belief into me until I was ready to believe it myself.
There are beliefs spoken into me that I have had to release because they do not serve me, in fact, they torment me and prevent me from being the woman God created me to be. I wish those beliefs wouldn’t show up, but they do. They are like ants in the house when it rains or gets hot: we seal up the spaces where they come in, but they find another way to get in. The negative words spoken into me are never fully gone, and they sometimes show up at the most inconvenient times, like when God gives me a vision. This is when I remember who I am and call on those who can remind me of what they see in me. They remind me that I am effervescent.
I hope you have people like that in your life, someone to remind you of who you truly are when you need to hear it the most! .
P.S I find it an honor to see in women what they sometimes cannot see in themselves. I love reminding them of the strengths God has given them, when the lies spoken into them surface.
