My invisible engine!
I was wrapping up things with my fourth Coaching Group, Conexiones (Connections). I have a file with pictures of all participants. As I went to add the photos of those who finished the fourth group, I realized that it was a LOT of photos. I began to get emotional. I was prompted to make a collage to hang on my wall but I was having difficulty finding a collage that could fit 38 photos, so I decided to order prints, get a poster board and make it myself. I placed the order for the pictures, but before I went to bed, I decided I would make a quick collage on CANVA. My heart was so overcome with emotions as I dragged each picture onto the slide. Then we finally shrunk them one by one to fit them all. I sat back and looked at all of the faces in the pictures. The feeling I had was indescribable. As I began to tell my husband that it was hard to explain how seeing all those pictures make me feel, I shed some tears.
I loved his response; “It’s Okay to cry.” As I type this, I am on my bed looking at my window where I have taped pictures of all my children. As I see them I think; “you all have been my best real life teachers. God has used you in ways I could never have imagined.”
In the work I do, I recognize the investment others have made in me. I am conscious of the years of spiritual guidance, therapy, coaching, coaching groups, etc. These helped me see all of what God can use. But I don't always acknowledge that the best teachers are my husband and my children (my invisible engines!).
They have taught me to be patient, disciplined, flexible, compassionate, fun, spontaneous, carefree, vision focused, forgiving, self-control, repentant, generous, self-sacrificing, patient, intuitive, strategic, friendly, loyal, brave… and because I have a long way to go, they continue to teach me those things.
There are also things we learn from books. I am intentional about continuing to educate myself to best serve my clients but there are things you learn through hands-on experience and the qualities that I mentioned above; the ones women in my group have said they see in me, those are continually cultivated by hands-on experience, and my kids give me many opportunities to practice. They are amazing, but we don’t always see eye to eye. It’s that truth that makes them my best teachers.
I love my husband and children with all my heart. Don’t ask me how I go from being overwhelmed with gratitude for the growth of my Coaching program, to overwhelmed with intense gratitude for my family. I believe it is God.
In my last post, I wrote about things that shaped me. I referred to a lot of things from my past but didn’t mention the present. Not because I wanted to ignore it, as I wrote in that blog, “I simply just started writing…” I believe God saved it for this time. He wanted me to see how He has used my husband, my sons, my daughter, my daughter-in-law, my dog and grand doggies for good. Each of them are now walking their own paths but they still continue to be the best teachers I have!
