Thought of the day #19
I remember a time when I was out of town and decided to go to the hotel gym and do 30 mins on the elliptical, a goal I had set to do daily. I had not done it in a couple of days so it felt good to decide to get back on track.
I woke up early, got ready and went to the gym. I felt so good. When I walked in, there was a man and woman doing heavy weight lifting. They looked visibly strong because their workout was intense. Suddenly the comparison monster appeared and I felt insecure to go on the elliptical at my slow pace. It always amazes me how insecurity can simply show up out of nowhere. Anyway, I quickly addressed it and told myself: “I am not here to do their workout, I am here to do my workout.” And I continued to be encouraged that I got out of bed and got on that elliptical.
Sometimes as we live life, feelings of defeat can show up, but it’s up to us to decide what to do with those feelings. We have a choice to make, feel defeated or feel victorious. The choice is ours. It takes more energy sometimes to choose feeling victorious but it’s so worth it at the end of it!
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1 NIV
